In 2021, the EU imported almost 138 million tonnes of agricultural products, costing €150 billion. At the same time, the report 'No Time to Waste', based on the most up-to-date sources, estimates that the EU wastes 153.5 million tonnes of food each year.

How much food waste is there in the United States? Each year, 119 billion pounds (59,5 million tonnes) of food is wasted in the United States. That equates to 130 billion meals and more than $408 billion in food thrown away each year. Shockingly, nearly 40% of all food in America is wasted.
